Unfortunately, the club was istratively relegated in 1991 and filed for bankruptcy soon after. Brest toiled in the lower leagues for more than a decade. In 2004, though, a young Franck Ribery led Brest back to Ligue 1 for the first time in nearly 20 years.
Les Pirates managed to stay in Ligue 1 for three seasons before going back down again. Brest looked like they’d go down to the third tier for the first half of the 2013-14 season.
