The National Hockey League returned to action on Monday night with six games on tap and all of them involving teams fighting for positioning in the playoff races in both the Eastern and Western Conferences, NHL Monday games recap saw plenty of good action for the sportsbooks and the bettors as we take a deeper look at last night’s NHL scores games in review.
The Florida Panthers 5-2 and leap over them in the Eastern Conference standings, giving them 77 points, tying them with the Buffalo Sabres, who earned a point in a shootout loss on Monday, and placing them five points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second and final Wild Card spot in the East with just eight games remaining.
Forward Brady Tkachuk scored a pair of goals and chipped in an assist on Alex DeBrincat’s 24th goal of the season. Goaltender Mags Sogaard made 31 saves on 33 shots faced for his second straight victory in net. Florida has now lost four straight games in regulation after having their eight-game point streak snapped. The Panthers have eight games left to play this season.
Forward Michael Pezzetta scored in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Montreal Canadiens a 4-3 victory as large road underdogs against the Buffalo Sabres. Winger Lukas Rousek scored a goal and chipped in an assist in his National Hockey League debut while goaltender Eric Comrie made 38 saves on 41 shots faced in regulation and overtime despite the losing effort.
The Sabres did earn a point with the contest going past regulation, so they are now tied with the Ottawa Senators, who won on Monday, with 77 points and sit five points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second and final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Buffalo has lost nine of their last twelve games overall.
The New York Islanders pick up a very important two points on Monday night, beating the New Jersey Devils 5-1 and increasing their lead ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins by three points – now with the top Wild Card berth in the Eastern Conference. Forward Kyle Palmieri has been red hot, scoring two goals and an assist tonight, which gives him five goals in the last six games.
Forwards Bo Horvat and Zach Parise scored late empty net goals for the Islanders, which led to the misleading blowout score. New Jersey played tight for most of the contest, with goaltender Vitek Vanecek making 31 saves on 34 shots faced.
The Devils have already clinched a playoff berth, but are three points back of the Carolina Hurricanes, who were idle on Monday, for the lead in the Metropolitan Division.
Forward Matt Boldy scored his third career Hat Trick as the Minnesota Wild win again at home, beating the Seattle Kraken 5-1 on Monday night. Minnesota is now 15-1-4 in their last 20 games, the best mark in the National Hockey League since February 17th. With the victory, the Wild now hold the Central Division lead with 95 points, one more than the Colorado Avalanche and three more than the Dallas Stars with eight games left to play.
Captain Jared Spurgeon and forward Joel Eriksson-Ek each picked up a pair of assists while goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made 35 saves on 36 shots faced for his 24th victory of the season. Seattle earned five out of a possible six points on this four-game road trip, and have now alternated wins and losses in their last seven games. With 88 points, the Kraken still hold a three point lead over the Winnipeg Jets for the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference and trail the Edmonton Oilers by three points for the third slot in the Pacific Division

- Forward Nathan MacKinnon scored a goal and an assist in his 700th career National Hockey League game as the Colorado Avalanche defeat the Anaheim Ducks 5-1 as big road favorites. Defenseman Bowen Byram scored his ninth goal of the year along with recording an assist while fellow blue-liner Cale Makar picked up a pair of assists. Backup goaltender Jonas Johansson earned the victory, making 29 saves on 30 shots faced. With the win, Colorado now moves one point behind the Minnesota Wild for the Central Division lead. The Wild travel to Denver on Wednesday night for a pivotal showdown.
- The Edmonton Oilers hang on to a 5-4 lead late to beat the Arizona Coyotes on Monday night. Forward Leon Draisaitl scored his 46th goal of the season midway through the contest. He would also pick up an assist while Evan Bouchard recorded two assists and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a goal and an assist. The Oilers now have a three point lead over the Seattle Kraken for third place in the Pacific Division with eight games left to play.
