2024 NCAAF Cheat Sheet: NC State Wolfpack Stats & Odds
McCall Could Pace 2024 NC State Stats

The ACC title is there for the taking, with the NC State Wolfpack among the early favorites. With a new quarterback aboard in graduate transfer Grayson McCall, the Wolfpack are poised to challenge Florida State and Clemson atop the league.
On the heels of a 9-4 season (6-2 ACC), the Wolfpack are projected for 8.5 regular-season wins, a figure they’ve sured three times since 2018.

Infusion of Talent Sparks Optimism
The NC State Wolfpack could be primed for a big year after a 5-1 finish to 2023. Head coach Dave Doeren loaded up in the transfer portal, giving the Wolfpack the ammunition they need to compete atop the new-look ACC. Quarterback Grayson McCall (Coastal Carolina) arrives, along with running back Jordan Waters (Duke), wide receiver Noah Rogers (Ohio State), and tight end Justin Joly (UConn).
NC State has a few holes to fill defensively, including All-American linebacker Payton Wilson, but Doeren’s grown adept at adjusting to change. The Wolfpack have won at least eight games in four straight seasons while ranking as high as 10th in the Associated Press Top 25.
The latest shift in realignment has SMU, California and Stanford ing the ACC, but NC State is expected to be better than all three as it chases its first conference title since 1979.
Despite a .583 winning percentage under Doeren, the Wolfpack have lost their last four bowl games, including last year’s Pop-Tarts Bowl (28-19 to Kansas State). That could soon change, though, thanks to an infusion of talent. Optimism is high.

Championship Odds: Unlikely, But Anything’s Possible
A national championship? OK, that may be a stretch. NC State has never won an NCAA title, and we’re not big on first-timers here.
Then again, the Wolfpack are on the short list of contenders in the ACC. Because of that, we have to consider any and all possibilities.
If McCall can play like a Heisman contender, it’s not crazy to think this team could compete for a spot in the expanded playoff field, which is tripling in size from four to 12 teams.
There are certainly better options, but the Wolfpack — whose NCAA title odds are +15000 — can’t be entirely dismissed.
Conference Odds: Short List of Top Contenders
Florida State (+290) and Clemson (+350) may be ACC favorites, but NC State isn’t far behind. In fact, the Wolfpack have the fifth-best odds to win the conference at +700. Nobody else is better than 16/1.
The Wolfpack are 23-11 in ACC play over the last four seasons per college football scores, including 6-2 in 2023. The inclusion of SMU, California and Stanford shouldn’t change the Wolfpack’s trajectory, as none are surefire contenders.
NC State visits Clemson in its ACC opener (Sept. 21), but it misses Florida State, Miami, and Louisville. Back-to-back games at Georgia Tech (Nov. 21) and North Carolina (Nov. 30) to close the regular season will go a long way toward determining the Wolfpack’s fate.
Regular Season Wins: Schedule Very Managable
NC State’s projected win total has climbed from 6.5 to 8.5, with the Under juiced to +110. The Wolfpack have cleared this bar in two of the last three seasons and have a .583 winning percentage under Doeren since 2013.
Can the Wolfpack again beat the college football odds?
The non-conference schedule is managable. Outside of the showdown with Tennessee, the Wolfpack host Western Carolina, Louisiana Tech and Northern Illinois. So, too, is the ACC slate, which doesn’t include three of the top four schools on the odds board in Florida State, Miami and Louisville. The Wolfpack should, at worst, be 4-1 after September. That would set them up for a big season.
To Make Playoffs: ACC Title or Bust?
Can the Wolfpack win the ACC? In all likelihood, that will ultimately determine whether they will make the expanded CFP. Anything less won’t cut it.
Of course, the Wolfpack (+500 to make CFP) could also do themselves a favor by beating Tennessee. The Sept. 7 showdown in Charlotte, N.C., is one of the marquee non-conference games on the slate.
Sprinkle on McCall for Heisman
McCall threw for over 10,000 yards and 88 touchdowns in five seasons at Coastal Carolina and was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year three times. McCall, whose production dipped amidst a coaching change in 2023 (1,919 yards, 10 TD), will see far more exposure at NC State.
The sixth-year senior is a +11000 longshot to win the Heisman Trophy, though he can change the conversation with a strong performance out of the gate. If the Wolfpack beat Tennessee and contend for the ACC title, it will likely be because of McCall.
IF bettors are feeling bold, they may want to consider these odds. Take that into when assessing the potential 2024 NC State stats.
