Joel Embiid Next Team Odds: What is Next for “The Process”?
Process This Impending Trade Request

Welcome to the NBA offseason, where a simple statement can generate endless speculation and betting odds on a trade rumor. This time, it’s Joel Embiid a.k.a. “The Process”. The reigning MVP made some comments that hinted about his future with the 76ers. Now, Joel Embiid next team odds are all over the sportsbook and it’s obvious who’s leading the list.
End of An Era: Could Embiid Ask Out of Philadelphia?
After another disappointing end to the season for Embiid and the 76ers, the NBA’s reigning MVP made some interesting comments about his future.
“I just want to win a championship. Whatever it takes,” Embiid told Maverick Carter at the UNINTERRUPTED Sports Film Festival. “I don’t know where that’s gonna be, whether it’s in Philly or anywhere else, I just want to have a chance to accomplish that.”
Of course, 76ers President Daryl Morey stated through an insider that they have “no plans, no appetite at all to trade Embiid.”
It seems ludicrous to consider trading an MVP, especially in their prime. In the NBA’s 77-year history, only a few teams have done it. Oklahoma City traded away James Harden and Russell Westbrook a few seasons ago in what were special circumstances that forced their hands.
With Philadelphia, Embiid will have to force his way out much like what his teammate, Harden, likes to do. The 29-year-old is coming off his best season where he put up a career-highs with 33.1 points per game on 54.8% shooting. Alas, he earned the dubious distinction of being the only MVP to never make it past the second round as he and Philadelphia lost to Boston in the second round.
This opens the door for Embiid to potentially leave Philadelphia and the Joel Embiid next team odds favor a handful of teams led by the New York area.
Embiid’s Best Fits Outside of Philly
In all likelihood, Embiid will stay in Philadelphia. Even if a franchise offers the stars and moon to Morey, the Sixers will keep their MVP. But should Embiid be moved, his best fit is not with the New York teams listed at +200 (Knicks) and +225 (Nets). But with Dallas at +300.
The Mavericks have Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving and are in dire need of a center to stabilize its core. Dallas can use a trade package centered around first-round pick Dereck Lively II, Tim Hardaway Jr., and a slew of picks to make it work.
While Dallas loses a lot of depth, a “Big 3” of Doncic, Embiid, and Irving will vastly improve the team’s NBA record and make it a top-five NBA title contender. Joel Embiid’s next team odds also indicate that this is better than a pipe dream though unlikely.
Another potential fit for Embiid is in New Orleans at +400. The Pelicans have both the assets to trade for Embiid and to lure him there. New Orleans could send either Zion Williamson or Brandon Ingram plus Jonas Valanciunas and picks for Embiid.
Williamson has frequently stayed on the NBA injury report but is still a valuable player with his limited availability. Philadelphia can rebuild around him while Valanciunas is on an expiring deal and a solid center to fill in for Embiid in the short term.
The Dark Horse: Oklahoma City
But the team that could come from out of nowhere to make a strong push for Embiid is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sam Presti has a banquet of prospects and picks to make Morey change his mind. At 10-1, the Thunder could be worth betting on in this regard.
The Thunder can use a package centered around Chet Holmgren and/or the Williamses (Jalen and Jaylin) plus picks. Embiid will then a core composed of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey. Oklahoma City improved to a 40-42 record last season and the team is ready to take that next step. Embiid will fast-track OKC from being a playoff contender to a title threat.
