Fred VanVleet Next Team Odds: He’s Going To Get Paid… But By Who?
Raptors Guard Could A New Team

Fred VanVleet is one of the most coveted point guards this offseason. The unrestricted free agent is expected to get lucrative offers that the Toronto Raptors will have difficulty matching. Early reports indicate Toronto is prepared to offer its star guard a “massive” contract. But should talks break down, Fred VanVleet’s next team odds have contenders ready to make that deal.
If VanVleet Wants The Money…
VanVleet is an All-Star guard and one that has a championship ring. He put up his best NBA player stats these past two seasons averaging nearly 20 points with over six assists per game. As such, reports indicate he could command around $30 million a season. The Raptors could still meet that. But a team that could pay VanVleet, even more is Houston.
The Fred VanVleet next team odds peg Houston at +700 to acquire VanVleet outside Toronto. The Rockets are projected to have over $50 million in cap space this coming season. The team is in the best position to offer VanVleet the richest deal. And why not? This is a team that needs a veteran guard and a leader. With new head coach in Ime Udoka, VanVleet could turn this young team into a playoff contender.
Another team that could have the space is Orlando. The Magic are listed at +800 and have around $17 million of space. Orlando has many expiring contracts it can move, including its incumbent point guard, Markelle Fultz. The team could be good enough to make a run at the playoffs with VanVleet.
The NBA. VanVleet will play the mentor to an upstart team that could contend as soon as Wembanyama begins to dominate.
Making a Deal: Contenders Could Trade For VanVleet
The Fred VanVleet next team odds also have Philadelphia (+500) as the three likeliest destinations for him. The issue is that all these teams are in the red regarding the salary cap, especially Phoenix.
The Suns acquired Bradley Beal for Chris Paul and already have $161 million committed to just four players. Phoenix will have to trade DeAndre Ayton, who makes nearly $33 million. Only then can Phoenix consider g VanVleet to his asking price.
Chicago also would need to move some of their contracts to make space for VanVleet. Fortunately, the team has a few deals set to expire either in 2024 or 2025. The team took a step back this past season, missed the playoffs, and badly needs another playmaker to compliment Zach LaVine.
The 76ers could also be a favorite NBA pick. VanVleet could reunite with his old coach, Nick Nurse. But this is contingent on what Philadelphia does with James Harden. The former MVP is said to want to opt out of his player option and re-sign a new deal. If it’s not with Philadelphia, the 76ers could sign VanVleet in his place.
Toronto Ready To Pony Up The Cash
Of course, the odds are only for if VanVleet and Toronto can’t come to a deal. Toronto can still, in theory, re-sign VanVleet and center Jakob Poeltl to their desired deals while staying under the $165 million luxury tax threshold. This is considering that Gary Trent Jr. opted into his contract, adding another $18+ million to their books.
Toronto could add VanVleet and Poeltl to $30 million and $20 million deals. However, the team would be unable to sign many good free agents. Still, if the team wants to “run it back,” it is possible, and VanVleet could just return to Toronto armed with a new contract.
