Caicedo in the 2022-23 Season
Moises Caicedo had his breakthrough in the 2021-22 season after Brighton recalled him from a loan at Beerschot. Caicedo rose to superstardom in the 2022-23 season as he became a key cog for Brighton.
The Ecuadorian is excellent with and without the ball and is a box-to-box midfielder. He ed one goal and one assist in the Premier league this season but so many of his contributions go unnoticed on the scoresheet.
He ranked in the 94th percentile in Europe’s top five leagues for completion percentage among midfielders. Caicedo also ranked in the 89th percentile for interceptions and 87th percentile for tackles per 90 minutes.
Caicedo performed so well in the first half of the 2022-23 season, including in the Arsenal as +1000 underdogs.
In January, Caicedo confirmed he wanted to leave the club but Brighton convinced him to stay. He signed a new contract through 2027 but it was likely done to preserve the player’s value to the club. Brighton continued to get excellent English Premier League results through the rest of the season and finished in sixth place. Now, the Seagulls will play in the Europa League for the first time ever in the 2023-24 season.
Potential Destinations
The most likely destination for Moises Caicedo this Summer is Chelsea. The Blues are in pole position to sign the Brighton midfielder as things stand. The deal could progress this week following Mason Mount’s departure from Chelsea to Manchester United.
Along with Mount, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante have also departed the club. So, Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez could be the centerpieces of a new look Chelsea midfield.
The Moises Caicedo next club odds list Chelsea as -500 favorites to seal the Ecuadorian’s signature. It appears that Brighton will hold out for £77 million, though. At +350, Manchester United is another potential destination for Caicedo. With Casemiro already in Erik ten Hag’s midfield, it’s unclear how he would fit in. Plus, United just spent a lot of money on bringing in Mason Mount.
Brighton’s Transfer Strategy
If Caicedo s Alexis MacAllister on the way out of Brighton this Summer, Roberto de Zerbi will need to buy suitable replacements. Brighton will start their first-ever European campaign in a couple months and will want to progress in the Europa League.
De Zerbi has managed to bring in Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner on free transfers but another midfield g or two should be in order. Currently, the Premier League. They have the eighth-best odds to win a first-ever EPL title.
