Forsberg, Werner Set to Depart RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig could only manage a draw on the road at Werder Bremen in their last match before the Bundesliga’s winter break. A persistent Lois Openda opened up the scoring for visitors Leipzig early in the second half on his third attempt in quick succession.

Forsberg made almost 200 Bundesliga appearances for Leipzig and is undoubtedly a club legend. Leipzig still have players like Kevin Kampl, Xavi Simons, Xaver Schlager, Amadou Haidara and new g Eljif Elmas in midfield. Simons is tied for second in the Serie A title in 2022-23.
Along with Forsberg, Timo Werner is set to depart the club this month. Werner, who has scored two Bundesliga goals this season, is close to ing Tottenham on loan. Just one week into the January transfer window, Eintracht Frankfurt have already completed loan deals for Sasa Kalajdzic and Donny Van de Beek. Kalajdzic is a 6’7” striker who missed nearly all of last season with an ACL injury but can add another dimension up front. Meanwhile, Van de Beek has been a soccer betting lately.
They did find a spark in their last match, though, in the form of substitute winger Niels Nkounkou. Nkounkou was on the pitch for less than 20 minutes but he was involved in both goals that powered Frankfurt to a 2-1 comeback victory over Borussia Monchengladbach. Both Aurelio Buta and Robin Koch scored in stoppage time off of Nkounkou crosses. Despite their relatively poor form, Frankfurt did manage a shock 5-1 win over Bayern Munich last month as well.
The sense is that Africa Cup of Nations this month. That includes leading scorer Omar Marmoush and midfielders Ellyes Skhiri and Fares Chaibi. Plus, Philipp Max is out injured and Koch is day-to-day.
