Understanding NCAAF Scores & Game Results

In college football, there are four levels of competition within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), but the most prominent and relevant level is the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

The College Football Playoff (CFP) era began in 2014 and is a system that allows four teams to compete in two semifinal games, with the winners advancing to the national championship game.

The semifinals rotate among six major college bowl games: the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Peach Bowl. The two highest-ranked teams are seeded first and second and receive home-field advantage in their respective semifinal games.

College Football Scoring

College football scoring works by accumulating points through touchdowns, field goals, and safeties, with each carrying a specific point value. The ultimate goal is to score more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.

There are several ways to score points in college football, and each has its own specific value. The most significant way to score is by scoring a touchdown, worth six points, which involves carrying or catching the ball into the opponent’s end zone. After scoring a touchdown, College football teams have the option to attempt a one or two-point conversion to gain additional points.

Another way to score is by kicking a field goal, which is worth three points. A field goal is awarded when a team kicks the ball through the opponent’s goalpost from a distance or on a free kick. In some cases, a team can also score a safety -which is worth two points- by tackling an opposing college football player in their end zone or forcing them out of bounds behind their goal line.

NCAA Football Scores & Past Results

This is a crucial part of betting on this sport, and most bets revolve around the scoring system.

Each sports, the game’s purpose is to finish with the most points when time runs out. However, what makes football so unique is the number of different ways you can score, plus the value of each score.

Because the NCAAF is just for college students, it is an amateur level of football. Players can leave college and try to go professional in the NFL.
