Lionel Messi Sidelined with Ligament Damage to Right Ankle
International Star Suffered Injury in Copa America 2024 Final Victory

soccer news Inter Miami received Tuesday when it was revealed the injured Messi suffered ligament damage and will miss time due to the Messi ankle injury.

Inter Miami’s statement:
After a medical evaluation, doctors determined that Leo Messi suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle. Periodic assessments and the progress of his recovery will determine the captain’s availability.
Inter Miami is currently in second place in the Eastern Division with 47 points, one behind MLS matches as well as those for the soccer playoffs.
Messi has played 12 games and has 12 goals and 13 assists. He is the leader of the Inter Miami attack in a league whose play is nowhere near the quality of the international game. The Messi ankle injury has come at a critical time for Inter Miami.
Coach Thinks Messi Could Miss Only Two Matches
Gerardo Martino (Coach) said the injured Lionel Messi will miss at least the next two matches, which are against Chicago Fire on Saturday night before Inter Miami begins its defense of its Leagues Cup title on July 27 at Puebla.
By the look of Messi’s ankle, two matches lost is highly optimistic. It swelled and ballooned once he came off the pitch in the second half of the 1-0 win over Colombia.

“He twisted his ankle, and the injury is present, so tests are needed and we will wait for results,” Martino said. “I’ve had the opportunity to see other images. There will be tests done to determine the severity of the situation.@
“We are always informed through our kinesiologist Walter Insaurralde, who is also the kinesiologist of the national team. He is very cautious at giving a final diagnosis before results are in.”
Superstar Optimistic
Messi posted a comment in Spanish on Instagram, translated it reads:
“The Copa América is over and the first thing I want is to thank everyone for the messages and greetings. I’m fine, thank God, and I hope I can soon be on the court again enjoying what I like to do most. I am happy, very happy, especially because we achieved the goal we had and Fide leaves us but with another Cup. The older ones, like him, Ota, or me, experienced it with special emotion, with other teammates who have already played several tournaments and added their experience as well, and with a group of young people who give their all with every ball. We are a team and also a family, a spectacular group. Thanks to everyone who ed us, this National Team has a lot of present and a lot of future too. Let’s go Argentina damn it.”
Despite the Messi ankle injury, he remains optimistic about his recovery and future performances.
