The USMNT sealed Berhalter’s fate by becoming the first host country eliminated in the Group stage of Copa America. The team needed help from another country and a win against Uruguay to reach the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, the help didn’t come, and the U.S. lost to Uruguay on July 1.
Berhalter stated, “The Copa America result is extremely disappointing, and I take full responsibility for our performance.”
